Every July, 60 aspiring Santa Clauses and 20 Mrs. Clauses descend upon a cluster of cabins in New Hampshire for an event known as “Santa Camp”. Across three grueling days, they learn everything a professional Santa needs to know, from negotiating with demonic toddlers to beard bleaching. It’s all in the hope that they can master this highly specialized, $30,000 per month gig. But, as the organizers are painfully aware, Santa has a diversity problem. That’s why this year, things are going to be very different. Santa Camp is welcoming its first Black Santa, ever. Plus its first autistic and transgender Santas. Founder “Santa Dan” is determined that the professional Santa community finally reflect a changing America, and he has a singular goal in mind: to create the country’s most diverse roster, just in time for the 2021 season.
