Irresistible: Why We Can’t Stop Eating explores how ultra-processed foods are designed to be irresistible and why they have come to dominate our food culture. With advances in scientific research, they have become a staple in our daily lives; cheap, delicious and with surprisingly long shelf lives. Through interviews with food industry insiders, we reveal how taste, texture, packaging, even the sound of the food, are perfected to make them irresistible. But a growing body of evidence links them to serious health issues: cancer, dementia; even premature death. In this exploration of the dark side of the food industry we explore whether we can change our food environment for the better and improve our health. And, if we find ultra-processed foods irresistible, is it really our fault?
