In the late 20th century San Francisco, a 200-year-old vampire Louis tells his story of desire, love, yearning, grief, terror and ecstasy to a young reporter Daniel Malloy. Louis' story begins in 1791, after the death of his wife and child. Louis is attacked by the vampire Lestat who offers him a chance at immortality. Soon, Lestat teaches Louis the ways of a vampire but the taking of human life repulses Louis, who chooses to dine on the blood of animals instead. Before long, Louis’ hunger for human blood takes over.
